Lloyd Sowell Memorial Golf Tournament

On a near-perfect day for golf, 112 players representing 28 teams competed in the 32nd Lloyd Sowell Memorial Golf Scramble on October 28, 2022. The Links at Galloway was in fine condition thanks to PGA professional Sean McFetridge and his staff, who also provided immense support to the MASHOF Golf Committee.

This successful fund-raiser was led in outstanding fashion by first-time Chairman Steve Ganong.

Special financial support was provided by Major Sponsors Power Transport and Standard Electric. Additional financial support was given by sponsors Jason’s Deli, Memphis Police Sports Federation, Love Worth Finding Ministries, Super-Lo, Belly Acres Restaurant, STIX Restaurant, McAllister’s Deli, Newk’s Deli, Town Village at Audubon Square, and State Farm Ins.-Michelle Agnew Agency.

Although no player won the $20,000 hole-in-one prize, the tourney experienced a record setting winning score of 49 (21 under par) by a team that included our good friend and Honorary Member Dave Woloshin, and a teenage phenom, Dakota Cunningham.

The Lloyd Sowell Memorial Golf Tournament is currently the only fundraiser the Hall of Fame. For the last several years we have had no major sponsors for our organization, so this gives the golf tournament increased significance. All profits from this event help fund the Annual Induction Banquet. We cannot thank our sponsors enough for contributing to the success of the tournament and the banquet.

Since 1970, people like you have generously helped the Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame recognize deserving candidates for induction into this prestigious organization. The Hall of Fame also participates in community outreach programs that promote athletics in the Memphis Metropolitan area. In addition, the Hall of Fame awards scholarships to deserving student/athletes at our annual awards banquet.
