The Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame (MASHOF) is proud to introduce the latest news, updates and memories. Our organization is dedicated to honoring the athletes, coaches and contributors whose achievements helped, and continue, to shape the rich sports history of Memphis.

Through these newsletters, our goal is to keep you informed on what is taking place, key events, member news, new inductees and from time to time, even Memphis sports flashbacks that include one of our members. We welcome your questions, comments, suggestions, etc. Please send your thoughts to mashofnewsletter@gmail.com.

Welcome to a new section where we will spotlight a member of MASHOF each or most issues.  This is a place to honor and remember MASHOF members and their sporting accomplishments.  This issue, we are pleased to honor Larry Hilbun, who was inducted into the Hall in 1990 for Fast Pitch Softball as both a player (pitcher) and as a coach.

It was a rousing MASHOF Members meeting March 23 as guest speaker Jack Sammons, General Chairman of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, visited our group.  What followed was a very enthusiastic, funny and quite informative walk down memory lane of the tournament and its history. Jack’s involvement began when FedEx took over sponsorship of the tournament, and he has been enthusiastically and actively involved ever since.

In closing, Mr. Sammons also surprised MASHOF member Larry Hilbun with a highly coveted “Key to the City” for his many accomplishments. This is a great honor that very few receive.  Well done Larry!

FEBRUARY 16 MEMBERS MEETING
Jimmy Ogle.jpg

Jimmy Ogle 2.jpeg

Jimmy Ogle, former Shelby County historian, was our guest speaker at the February members meeting.  Jimmy enthusiastically displayed his incredible Memphis sports history knowledge, regaling all with tales of old involving many of the Hall’s inductees and sports heroes.  Along the way he quizzed the group with several brain twisters testing the audience’s sports knowledge.  It was a timely meeting as in our March banquet, Jimmy was formally inducted into MASHOF – well deserved!!
